Have you ever started your ride feeling a bit down? Have you ever started your effort and felt low on energy? Do you like to ride your bike and appreciate a minute of a well deserved rest? Well, you are probably a big fan of coffee and cafe stops.
There are many reasons why cyclists like to drink coffee. In my opinion the stop at a local or far away cafe gives you a well deserved break that you can enjoy. When I do training, I usually stop for a cafe and also refuel with a cake or some chocolate bars. But what are the health benefits of coffee?
- Improves focus
Many people drink coffee whenever they need to focus on certain things. In cycling this is really important as well.
- Improves performance
Your performance can improve by 11-12%. Caffeine increases adrenaline levels. Adrenaline is the “fight or flight” hormone which helps you to prepare for physical exercise.
- Lower risk of stroke
Moderate drinking of coffee (2–4 cups a day) is shown to lower the risk of stroke.
- Lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes
Coffee decreases your sensitivity to insulin and impairs glucose tolerance. By this it reduces the risk of the diabetes to develop
- Finally, Coffee is tasty and makes you happy
Apart from all these brilliant properties of coffee, it is a great beverage and good to share it with friends. Make sure you drink it on a sunny terrace!
